Fix It! Plantronics Gamescom 780/788
Now, let's assume you've been using this bitchin' headset for years, because you're an awesome individual. Now, it's been a few years, so you may have upgraded to Windows 10 like all the other good little boys and girls.
As we continue on the imagination train with our suppositions and hypothesis's, let's pretend that for whatever reason (janky audio, driver corruption, wipe and reload, you were bored, you're a masochist), you have to reinstall the driver.
No big deal, right? You'd be wrong. So very wrong. Plantronics did release a driver which included Windows 8.1 support a few years back and while you might think it would work with Windows 10, you'd be wrong again. You see, the installation wizard pops up with a delightful message that it has been interrupted. "Well, run it as an administrator!", you're surely screaming at your monitor! Run it in compatibility mode! Wrong again on both counts, friendo.
Now, before giving up and purchasing another inferior headset, feast your eyes on this. HarryReed came up with an ingenious solution back on May 18, 2015. To quote:
" I don't know if this is still an issue for you, but I finally figured it out. The installer package unzips to c:\program files (x96)\plantronics\gc780installer. Inside this directory you will open win8(whql) and run the setup program there with administrator rights. This installs the drivers and support software just fine with the build 10074"
To surmise, you simply need to go into the folder where the application unzipped itself (phrasing) and run the Windows 8 installer. Now, in my testing, it has to be the Windows 8 installer as the Windows 7 and 8.1 installers give the same error as before. Just to clarify, I am running Windows 10 64-bit. I can't confirm that this works with the Pro OS, but I don't see why it wouldn't.
