Platform: PC, Xbox, PS Release Date: 2020/04/01 Developer: People Can Fly Publisher: Square Enix STORY When the initial coverage for Outriders first started to appear, I wasn’t impressed. A post-apocalyptic shooter with, what appeared to be, a Hellraiser aesthetic? Yet another looter shooter? No thanks. I was already firmly entrenched back in my long time favorite Destiny 2. I wasn’t about to pull myself away for an unknown. And after Anthem flopped and took a year to be canceled, Borderlands 3 didn’t land with me, Cyberpunk was a disappointing mess, and Godfall came and went like a fart on the wind...I was more than a little hesitant to pay full price for a new AAA title.

Gurgamoth Developer: Galvanic Games Platform: Mac, PC Price: $9.99 Release Date: February 16, 2016 If there is one thing that irks me more than any other about the current generation of games, it is the lack of local cooperative play.  It was something that began with the previous generation of games.  Slowly, but surely, more and more developers started cutting what was once a staple feature.  Now, you'll be extremely hard pressed to find a game that isn't made by Nintendo and supports a party of gamers sharing the same couch.

Faithful readers may recall that in February 2013, Gaming Climax was invited to preview an upcoming title from publisher Aeria Games called Scarlet Blade .  It earned a favorable preview and since then has seen final release.  One of the questions I had during the event was if players would ever see a male addition to the entirely female Arkana classes.  There were plenty of non-committal answers of “maybe” and “it’s possible”.  Fast forward to November and Scarlet Blade’s first playable male character has made his debut .

Every culture has their own embodiment of death.  Anubis and Osiris filled this role jointly for the ancient Egyptians.  Hel and Freya took on similar roles in Norse mythology.  Even today, we have the Grim Reaper with his black cloak and scythe.  But in the times of the ancient Greeks, one deity alone claimed the lives of the fallen, Thanatos. While Thanatos is a fearsome individual, he rarely appeared in Greek mythology.  The son of Nyx and Erebos, Thanatos had multiple siblings whom were also embodiments of all things negative.  Despite being the physical embodiment of death and full of hate towards all beings, Thanatos has been outwitted on occasion.  But things didn’t end well for that individual and to this day Sisyphus is still rolling that boulder. The Force Unleashed was met with generally positive reception from both fans and critics alike despite noted repetition in enemies and levels.  And after what seemed like a death of protagonist, Starkiller, at the end of the game, many were left wondering what route a sequel could take.  Two years later, everyone got their answer with The Force Unleashed II. Clones.  The answer is clones.  Starkiller really did die at the end of the first game, giving everything so the Rebel Alliance could form.  Roughly six months after the end of the first game and just before Episode IV , players find that Vader has been up to his yellow eyeballs in cloning another secret apprentice on Kamino.  After going through countless clones, we meet this latest one who has failed yet another one of Vader’s tests when he refuses to kill an assassin droid with the guise of Starkiller’s main squeeze, Juno Eclipse. As he’s set to be executed, Clone Starkiller breaks free...

  The Bloodrayne series enjoyed some moderate success when it was first released.   It combined three great gaming elements into one seductive package: sexy women, killing Nazis, and vampires.   Add in a lackluster sequel, some truly awful movies, and a tacky Playboy spread and times have been tough on titular hero Rayne.   Developer WayForward Technologies are looking to turn things around for her with the help of publisher Majesco.   Will the transition to 2D and a focus on compelling gameplay bring focus to this series?

Mass Effect 3 took a bold new step with the addition of multiplayer.  Galaxy at War pits a team of four against eight brutal waves of Cerberus agents, Geth, or Reapers.  Players take on the roles of Mass Effect’s classes and must survive 11 waves while completing objectives.  Surviving grants credits which can be spent on new characters and gear.  If that’s not enough to convince you, here’s five reasons why you should try Galaxy at War.

While Mass Effect 3 was heralded as a commercial and critical success, the ending left the gaming community divided.  Many, including myself, felt it was generic and was not tailored to the decisions made across three games.  On top of that, the endings to this epic trilogy were incredibly short and left much to the player’s imagination as to what happened afterwards.  On the other side of the fence were those that said it was within developer BioWare’s right to end the series as they saw fit.  This is an incredibly valid point, but in an industry where fans decide whether a studio lives and dies, some sort of middle ground needed to be reached.  On June 26 th , BioWare did just that and released the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut .

It’s been a long ride.  Since its initial release in 2007, Mass Effect has captivated millions with its rich and imaginative world.  From chasing a rogue agent to uncovering a plan to annihilate nearly every living thing in the galaxy, our future would be a grim one if not for the exploits of one Commander Shepard.  Mass Effect 3 marks the end of what can only be considered one of gaming’s greatest trilogies.  With so much anticipation, can Mass Effect 3 live up to its own legend?

It’s been some time since we’ve stepped in Master Chief’s MJOLNIR boots.  When we last left the SPARTAN hero, he was adrift in space, locked in stasis awaiting rescue.  Rescue has come in the form of 343 Industries.  Microsoft’s in-house studio has taken the banner passed down to them from renowned developer, Bungie.  Is it time for Master Chief to be thawed out, or should he have stayed in a deep slumber? Released in November 2012 and taking place on a Forerunner planet, Master Chief must combat a brutal new enemy in the form of the Prometheans, Forerunner constructs.  Adding to his troubles are a radical splinter group of the Covenant who refuse to honor the peace treaty brokered at the end of Halo 3 .  And if things couldn’t get any worse for the Chief, his digital companion, Cortana, is reaching the end of her life cycle.  This process involves Cortana slowly going crazier and crazier and will eventually end in her “thinking herself to death”...

After releasing hordes of free multiplayer DLC, BioWare has graced players with more content for the single player game.  Released on August 28, 2012 at a cost of 800MS Points ($10), Leviathan  promised to take players to the darkest corners of the galaxy in the hunt of a weapon strong enough to kill a reaper. Taking place during the main campaign, Shepard receives a message from Admiral Hackett that an Alliance researcher by the name of Dr. Bryson has uncovered information about the Reapers that could turn the tide of the war.  After arriving on the Citadel, Commander Shepard discovers that Dr. Bryson is the equivalent of a cryptozoologist.  This kicks off a series of missions spanning the far corners of the galaxy searching for the Leviathan, a creature rumored to be able to kill a reaper. The additional content only takes a few hours to complete and spans a series of 10 missions in all.  It adds in some of the newer aspects of multiplayer like escortin...
